Prior to becoming an independent consultant, David was the Executive Director of the Canadian Institute of Planners.  In that capacity, he was one of the Co-founders of the Canadian Healthy Communities movement, he served as part-time Secretary General of the Commonwealth Association of Planners and he was the Canadian representative at the International Federation of Housing and Planning.

Despite these somewhat lofty titles, he has a very practical streak, no doubt from having been the co-owner of a dairy farm as a young man.  He has worked nationally and internationally and has served on numerous boards of directors.  He is also known for his generous laugh.  He is fluently bilingual and holds a Master of Arts degree in Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University.
